People have busy schedules! There’s work, things to take care of around the house, and the dreaded medical appointments. Sometimes when I look at my planner, I wonder if there’s ever time for me to have fun. Over the past couple of months, I have learned to make time in my daily schedule to do something I enjoy.
Recreation can look different to many people. It’s all about what YOU enjoy doing. But the cool thing is, recreation has other benefits as well as having fun. It is a great way to relieve stress and get you ready for the things you have to do. Recreational activities can be done by yourself or with a group of people.
One of my favorite things to do is go skiing. A few years ago, I tried it for the first time and I can’t get enough of it. What I love about skiing is how I have learned to trust another person. The person behind me is guiding my bi-ski and I have to be able to communicate with that person. The past two times I went the person was awesome and we quickly bonded. The main reason that I love skiing is it allows me to do an activity outside of my wheelchair. I feel completely free and when I’m going down a hill it’s fun to pick up speed.
So as you can see, recreation can include many different activities. It’s all about having fun and releasing the stress of everyday life. Take time to enjoy the free time that you have and try something new. Have fun!
