In Memory – Judy Cunio
The Riot was very saddened by the news of Judy Cunio’s passing in June. Judy was a pioneer in the self-advocacy movement and was known by many across the nation. She was the first president of People First of Oregon. For the past ten years, she worked as the Self-Advocacy Coordinator at the Oregon Council on Developmental Disabilities. She worked tirelessly to make sure that the voices of self-advocates were included in decisions that affected them. She will always be remembered for her spirit, sense of humor, and commitment to the self-advocacy movement.
If you knew Judy, please feel free to share your thoughts and memories.

HI HAVE A GOOD DAY,
I did not know Judy personally but I had heard her name. I’m sorry to hear of her passing and I’m sure she will be missed. P.S. The “Comment” field on these forms is labeled “website.”
Judy, I’ll miss you! Her amazing sense of humor and keen observations. She tought me lessons about what’s it like to live with a physical disability that have made me a better friend, professional and support person. And she kicked my tail at blackjack!
Oh My gosh! I was so taken aback to see the RIOT and read of Judy’s passing. I knew her during the days of Community Partnerships s-o-0 very long ago now. Judy was always someone you could count on to say it how it was. She was a very remarkable woman and I have fond memories of our conversations. Even though I haven’t been good at staying in touch with any of those participants these last few years since I left OR. I know the Oregon community of advocates will miss her as much as I will. Hey Judy, my friend, you made a BIG difference in the world I know!
