Has the self-advocacy movement lost its fight?
Self-advocacy organizations all over the country are losing their funding or having their budgets cut. In some states, self-advocacy groups are struggling to stay alive. Some people say that groups are losing their funding because they just aren’t as effective as they used to be.
The Administration on Developmental Disabilities is holding five regional meetings called the Allies in Self-Advocacy Summits to find out what is happening with the self-advocacy movement across the nation.
Did you attend one of the meetings? Does everyone on your state team get along?
What do you think about the self-advocacy movement in your state? What are you doing about it?

what I want to know is where is any of the individual first language, we have so many leaders that compile groups of individuals and try to stick them in some boxes, the fact is that I have never thought of myself as disabled, even though I could have been thought of many times throughout my life in that way, I wasn’t raised with all the non sense that goes on in the world today to be the way it is, I seen the person sitting in the wheelchair as a friend, not as a disabled person, I wasn’t raised to see the disability in it, now because of the money we all do, and there is a lot of money in it, self fight self advocacy, well I think we are the trainers of the so called trainers, and often depending on the situation we are not all the same, there are some that are severely and profoundly incapable of taking care of themselves at all and there are some that because of the perceptions and treatment by others are not allowed even to hope to take care of themselves any at all, so guess that is where I am at with this, let’s get rid of big lobbiest groups like NAMI and others and learn to speak for ourselves and if we need to and only if we need to stick up for others, that’s all
